Coop Building Insurance

Does anyone have any recommendation of a Coop Building Insurance agency ? We’ve been customers of Brownstone agency for 30 years with only one minor claim. We have days to go before our policy expire and have been in communication with them for over a month and we still have no quote . Is anyone else having a similar problem and do you have a another broker you can recommend?

BTW, I’d still like to know if people whose Brownstone Agency policies expire at a time other that Xmas week have experienced delays in getting renewals.

Probably force of habit.
When I bought my house in 1974 Brownstone sold the ONLY policies really suited for old city houses and the one minor claim I had (>30 years ago) was paid promptly. I was a bit concerned to see that Argonaut Insurance, their new insurance company, only had an “A” rating, which is OK (“excellent”) but three levels from the top.

Bob, why do you stay with Brownstone Agency given their lack of professionalism? Sure you are now “covered” by their insurance, but did you ever wonder would happen if you actually tried to get them to pay out on a claim? When I bought my house a couple years ago my choices were essentially Chubb or Brownstone Agency. Brownstone Agency was less than half the cost of Chubb, but my insurance broker advised that getting them to actually pay a claim was difficult. I chose to pay for the piece of mind. I’m curious to hear how/why others differ in their thinking.

I was relieved to see that my check to Brownstone Agency, that I mailed on 12/30,
cleared yesterday. This isn’t the first time that they’ve mailed the renewal invoice after the previous policy expired. I’ve always wondered what would happen if I had a fire between the expiration date and Brownstone mailing the invoice, or depositing my payment? In any case I won’t have to worry again for three years.

FWIW I received the invoice for my 3 year renewal today (12/30). It had been mailed on 12/27, three days after the policy expired. This has happened quite a few times in the 14 times my policy has been renewed since 1974. I’ve always ascribed it to my policy expiring during Xmas week. Do any homeowners who use Brownstone Agency whose renewals fall at more normal times in the year have similar problems?

I’ve found Brownstone Agency to be very slow in sending out renewal quotas every three years when my policy is up. I always ascribed it to the fact that my policy expires during Xmas week. FWIW I do eventually
get the renewals, generally retroactively.
