Contract clauses - termination and violations
Termination: What is the standard or reasonable timeframe and penalty that should be should be written in the termination clause of a large renovation contract? Is it common for it to state the Contractor can terminate with 1 day notice; the owner can find another party to complete the work and the contractor will be liable for the $ difference if it cost more?
Violations: What are the typical terms around who is responsible for the the fines / costs of resolving violations resulting from the contactors actions or inactions (ie. if there was a safety violation or work stop order)?

No it is not common to have a termination clause in a construction contract that either the contractor nor the owner can cancel on one days notice.
It is best to have a construction Attorney look at any contract that you enter into for a “large renovation” contract. The responsibilities & Liabilities on both sides are too large to enter into a poorly written contract.
But that aside, you also cannot be entering into a a contract with distrust before you start.
