Coned account(s) in 2-family house
First post here but I have been reading for years. I am moving soon into the 2-family home that I bought. I will rent out one unit. Should I register both meters/accounts under my name with Coned or only register the meter/account attached to my unit and ask my tenant to register the second meter/account under his/her name? Are there pros and cons to either method?

Also if it is under your name you are responsible for all charges. If tenant for whatever reason decides not to pay you will be liable

If the tenant is to pay their own electricity their meter should be registered in their name. Presumably there is also a “common area” meter for hallways and the cellar (heating, etc) that will also be in your name (and billed under ‘commercial’ rates).

tenant registers when they move in. I put it in my name between tenants because I do not want it turned off ever – fridge, lights, etc
