Combined Boiler temperature
My Weil-McLain hi efficiency boiler (2/3 years old)
supplies hot water both to my radiators and for my hot water. Is there a specific temperature it should be set to? It’s been quite hot during the winter to the point that the hot water coming out is dangerously hot. Any suggestions/comments or guidance much appreciated.

Boiler update. Original plumbers did something screwy with the temperature control on the water tank. Replaced and now I get hot water for radiators, and 125 for showers, so no mixing valve needed. Thank you for all the advice – I might try Maggie’s approach!

I’ll be sure to have my wife read these comments. Maybe something good will come out of this-

There’s a reason they’ve been on the menu in all sorts of restaurants in recent years – fixed right, which means not-the-overcooked,smelly-things of my childhood, they are delicious. But you’d never get me near them many decades ago when I was growing up. I came to like them in the 90s, when some friends said they would bring them to a Thanksgiving I hosted. When I questioned the choice, I was told “You will like our Brussels sprouts,” and they were right, much to my surprise, I did. They fixed them with mustard sauce – one of them was from the “old world” originally, as was my mother.

120 is the hpd mandated temperature but you can aim higher based on the amount of heat loss you get from boiler to fixture. Brussel sprouts roasted with green apples, onion, and apple cider vinegar are also delicious.

Brokelin, that is how my better half prepares them to make them half palatable. Not sure she does the red pepper flakes, they may help. but honestly these things are not worth the trouble and should have been left in the old world.

Oh, please, cut them in half, saute them in a little olive oil, with a some onions and garlic if you like, and some red pepper flakes if you like a little heat; add a little water and a lid to finish cooking if they’re still not soft enough to stick a fork through once browned (sometimes they are cooked through just browning in the oil). Finish off with a little balsamic vinegar – the dark red, aged thick stuff – once they are as soft enough to chew, and you’ve boiled away any excess water — delicious, not your (or my) mother’s Brussels (yes, it is plural, and capitalized, usually) sprouts.

The thing with the yellow knob on it.
It is a good thing i like babaganoush. If your screen name was brussel sprouts i would not have helped you. [20230125_161909](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:8GU8:20230125_161909.jpg.jpg) [20230125_160907](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:mZQt:20230125_160907.heic.jpg)

Steve, that would be very much appreciated! This seems like a completely reasonable and a fairly simple fix to my issue!

So my boiler has a mixing valve on the side of it and every winter i increase the amount of cold water that is blended and every summer i reduce it. Maggie said 120 degrees and i believe that anti scald valves trip at 130.
If you need a photo of one of these vavles and where it might sit on the boiler, i can snap one. I am looking at it now.

sounds to me like you need to have a way to reduce the temp of the domestic hot water while retaining higher temp for the hot water heat. my understanding of the specifics of these things is pretty limited but you may need a mixing valve on the domestic side that allows you to add cold water to supply 120 degree water to your faucets while maintaining higher temps for your radiators.
