Colonial: National Council of Acoustical Consultants
they closed the discussion on your post regarding sound transfer. this organization has a website that includes a directory. they also have a really good article on the ‘net which i decided not to link because i do not think it deals with the joist pocket sound transfer issue you are concerned about and i have taken what jane is saying into consideration. you may wish to find it and read it to see if there is anything you can glean (i will link it if you ask).
I had called someone once in lower manhattan (i was thinking on St Marks; i think i am wrong) and the guy was great. spent about 20 minutes talking to me. i now think the man i spoke to was on Mercer and i have seen him mentioned on Brownstoner before (or even in your post); Alan Fierstein of Acoustilog. He was very giving with information and spoke a lot about what you are concerned about,, sound transfer through joists and joist pockets. call him. he will not take you down any rabbit holes.
the problem with finding good information on this topic (specifically sound transfer through joists an d into the joist pocket) is very few people have had it done and even fewer have done it themselves and i suspect many of the firms who do it are very tight lipped.
I know you were hoping that Bill (Restoration Contractor) would reply, but i also know he has been very busy. I would bet he has done this sort of thing though. anyone of us can probably read all the stuff that is on the ‘net and post what is pertinent but i am very much aligned with Jane in that people who have not done things should not be saying they have (especially us contractors). Perhaps when Urbandad comes back from where he is, he will study how to do this and covey it here; he’s not a contractor so i suppose we can give him a little more latitude with what he writes and we must acknowledge, he is a very good researcher..
