Cleaning the stairwell stain glass skylight
We have a stain glass skylight in the stairwell of our brownstone, and I’d love advice on how to clean it (and keep it clean). It’s too far into the roof crawl space to reach it with a cloth or even a long squeegee, and it doesn’t currently open in either direction.
How do people clean this window? Should it be put on hinges that open and close for future cleanings? If so, would you make the hinges open inwards, so I can reach it from the stairs?

If the glass is fragile I would leave it in place and try to clean it from the roof as Bob said. I have one that is not an antique that I put a hinge on the frame . The window and frame swings down for easy cleaning on both sides.

I’d be Leary of anything that involves moving the fragile leaded glass panel. I used to be able to open my skylight housing from the roof by removing a pane of glass. I’d vacuum the top of the glass. The housing’s too fragile now, so my stained glass is filthy. Eventually I’ll replace the housing and be able to clean the glass once more.
