Chimney Pro broke neighbor liner
We just had our chimney liner replaced with stainless steel. The chimney guy broke the clay liner and then inserted the new stainless steel liner. Everything seemed to be going smooth until my neighbor (chimney next to mine) called a few days later and said during his annual maintenance check, they found a bucket of clay liner on the bottom of the chimney. Obviously they are upset and I can understand. I called the chimney company I used and the owner said if their worker did it, he will gladly fix the problem.
The chimney company I used been around for 30, fully insured and license. I am thinking the worse scenario, if they refuse to fix it for my neighbor. If that happens, am I liable? If my neighbor decides to sue? I hope it doesn’t get to that point and I’m trying everything on my end to make sure the chimney company fixes the problem but it’s out of my control. I feel so bad since I thought I was careful about selecting the chimney company and chosing the one with the least impact on the wall during the removal of clay liner. Argh.

I wouldn’t stress yet. So far, you are being a great neighbor and the chimney company has behaved exactly how you would hope they would. Sure, it could go south, but nothing yet would make me worried about lawsuits and such. It sounds like you picked a good company and they are standing behind their work. These things happen in attached houses. A little understanding between neighbors goes a really long way.

If it goes well – can you refer me to the chimney person you used? I’m in need of chimney work myself.
