Cellar Steps and Door

We need replace the steel doors, which leak and have broken hinges, from our front yard to the cellar and I’m wondering if there are alternatives to the heavy metal doors with the pad lock on the outside that we currently have… Is there something lighter weight and possible to be opened from the inside without first unlocking from the outside (think easier access to getting bikes and other equipment in and out), but still can be opened by con-ed from the street? The steps are also incredible steep and pretty narrow, are there structural concerns for the house if we tried to make the steps /cellar entrance wider and perhaps less steep? Anyone with experience with this in their home have a sense of cost?
