Ceiling light fixture dilemma

Hi, I don’t know if this is a very common problem, but I have an old gas line and some electrical stuff coming out of the ceiling, and want to put a new ceiling light fixture in that will cover it. Most won’t work because the top part that goes against the ceiling (don’t know what that’s called) is flat or too shallow. Has anyone found such a fixture? Thanks!

Get a vintage (or reproduction) bell-shaped canopy. These are made to cover the sort of “gas”electrical boxes you have. Hardware stores also sell spacers that can be stacked on top of modern flat canopies to fill the space (although those are kind of ugly). For example, here are some bell-shaped canopies:

Those are repros, but you should find many vintage ones on eBay, or Etsy.
