Building Code Q: Where's that egress?

Ok, I hate to do it but here’s another building code Q. Last one I swear!

Facts: 2 family brownstone (Built in 1901). 3 floors. All bedrooms have at least one big window that opens to either street or garden. I have a roof hatch in the hallway.

I want to make the adjoining bedroom bigger by taking some from the hallway, including the area under the roof hatch, basically enveloping the hatch.

Does a 2 family legally even have to have roof access? I mean, what if I had a pointy roof?

AFAIK every unit needs two means of egress unless it’s sprinklered.

string(1) "3"
string(6) "197536"

To be clear, I don’t want to close the hatch… I still wanna be able to get onto the roof when needed.
