Building Code Q: What's that hallway width?
Hi.
Doing a gut reno: What’s the minimum allowed hallway width per NYC building code for a hallway.
From sheetrock to sheetrock.
3 story, multifamily house brownstone.
I believe it to be 36″, but I’m not 100% sure. Can someone with expertise confirm?

I don’t know about common hallway in the building but I know for the hallway within the apt, it has to be min of 36″. We tried to squeeze it down but no go.

36″ is correct. But your architect should know that.

I say this because of this article:

On page 73 it states everything below 50 occupants 36″ is OK.. But I can’t really tell if this applies to residential homes.
