I looked at the photo and see now that you’re not looking to add parking in front of the house, but rather within the house. It’s most likely allowed if you have a legal curb cut, but as chemosphere points out, it’s a lot of money for a parking spot. It would also most likely require a change to the C of O to include the parking use of the ground floor.

and yes, it’s equally stupid in SF, where a city so obsessed with “historic preservation” lets these slide even though none of the Victorians originally had them, and paradoxically the housing crisis is so acute that the city now publishes a guide for turning your Victorian house’s garage into an accessory dwelling unit.

the reason this is not done more often is Brooklyn parking spaces go for about $200-400/month while the front half of a townhouse ground floor rents for about $800-2000/month. You would basically be giving your car it’s own garden apartment.
That said, our city still has momunentally stupid parking minumums for new construction of over 10 units, and all those new buildings have either garages or outdoor parking, so if they can do it, you can do it.

It depends upon your zoning district. Many allow parking only behind or alongside the house, no closer to the curb than the front of the house.

I am not sure how much it would cost but if it costs 50k-100k I think it would be worth It, instead of buying another house

It would be cheaper to buy a house that already has a Garage!
But if money is no object & you want to beat your head against a brick wall …. you have a .05% chance of getting it approved, depending on where you are on the block, just off a corner NO, within 15′ of a hydrant … NO! within 15′ of a tree, NO and after all of that, the City does not want you taking a public parking spot away from them being able to write tickets for …… Do yourself & your neighbors a favor & look for a house that already has a garage.
