Boiler Room Fire Extinguisher Tags?
Can anyone recommend a reasonable company to do the NYC mandated tagging on fire extinguishers required in a boiler room? Do you happen to know the annual cost? Thanks.

Venus Fire Protection, 300 3rd Ave, Brooklyn (near Costco) 718-215-3892 You can bring it in for update and tag. Believe good for a year. Cost is nominal.

ok, i checked last night: none of us can simply get an extinguisher inspect cert from the FDNY; to perform inspections, the cert holder must be employed by a registered testing firm.
i also checked, the company i mentioned on here a week ago that performs sprinkler inspections, on utica ave, they do not do fire extinguishers.

i posted the name of a company on here the other day to help someone. find that post and see if they service extinguishers. maybe not has they also have to be able to hydro test them but they might service range hoods and that is in a way a big extinguisher with the range hood. they were on utica.

look up fire exstinguisher service companies and see if they will let you bring it in so they can tag it. they might, so find one close to your house. i do know when they do the on site inspection, they would also look to see that they were on a hook and off the floor with a sign above them (i know this because the guy was a former FDNY inspector and his job was to lead me around and tell me what we were doing wrong).
i would post the name of the people we used but that is a long time ago, it was a small single owner with one helper and that guy was at retirement age back then. at another building we used lund in north eastern queens; kind of far from brooklyn.
in another jurisdication, when i was in college, i released an extinguisher in the on campus housing – not to put out a fire but for the alcohol induced fun of it. the campus housing tacked a punishment fee onto such endeavors so before they even learned what i had done, i took it to the local extingisher service company and had them fill it. They also put a new tag on it. about three years later, i had my first post college job and we had about 24 commercial grade extinguishers on that site; i put them in my truck and drove them to the same people who had been so kind to me when i was in college and had them inspect and tag all of them for a lot less than it cost to have them come on site. i do not know if this will work in NYC as they may need to see them hanging in place with a sign over them.
i have the names on some of the firms on the extinguishers in my shop but if i were you i would find someone near you and call them and ask if they will tag it if you bring it in.
i have spoken on here about people getting certs of fitness for sprinklers. i wonder if they can be had to inspect extinguishers and if they will allow an independent person to place a tag with their cert number on it? i do not know, just a thought.
