Boiler Installer Recommendation?

We need to replace a 350,000 BTU gas atmospheric boiler this summer. Looking for references and recommendations of installers. Thanks.

I used Midwood Plumbing. They replaced my giant oil system for gas. They did everything exactly as they said they would and within the time-frame given. They were recommended to me by my trusted plumber and were the best priced out of 3 estimates.

Do the search on internet. Use keywords like “boiler installer in brooklyn”. Do not look at advertisements results, look at natural search results. Also visit heatinghelp.com “find contractor” section. Look at local boiler installer companies websites. Then go to dob website, http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/LicenseTypeServlet?vlfirst=Y check if contractor on the website is licenced. Then do the search on candidates, see how many boiler jobs they did recently. Boiler work is a specialty, so you must find contractor who does boilers exclusively. See LAA and permits information regarding clients. Contact clients and ask them about their experiences with contractor and job in general. Make sure contractor offers heat loss calculations and EDR survey. Do not rely on size of existing boiler. You don’t know if original installer did not do mistake in sizing of the boiler years ago. Another consideration: do you want just to replace boiler or upgrade it to better one, more efficient, do you consider upgrade heating system in general.

Hey you ^^ What do you know? You weren’t recommended by the local plumbing Supply Warehouse. I bet with that know it all attitude of yours that you probably have return problems. And we all know return problems are typically due to poor installation.

For what it’s worth, 350,000 BTUs is a very large boiler for a residential application. If it is being used for steam heat, make sure the installer does a proper EDR survey of the heating system and not a heat loss calculation of the building. Square footage of the building/living space plays no role in the sizing of a replacement steam boiler despite what you’ve been led to believe. And sizing a replacement boiler based on the size of the boiler being removed is big mistake 99 out of 100 times.
I’m just replying here because as an installer of many many boilers in Brooklyn and Manhattan, it is my experience that most 3-5 story residential buildings are heated with boilers under 300,000 BTUs.
Oversizing is a great way to reduce efficiency, raise maintenance costs and shorten life expectancy of the equipment.

Go to your local plumbing Supply Warehouse that sells a lot of Boilers. They will know the plumbers that do the most installations locally without a lot of return problems. And most return problems are due to poor installation.
