Bicycle Storage Room

I now live in a small 6 story co-op with 24 apartments. We have a bicycle storage room in our basement that is not used very efficiently. We have two outdoor-style racks set end-to-end, each holding 10 bikes and numerous kids bikes hanging from wall hooks. Some of the building’s children are graduating to larger bikes and we have run out of available bike storage space with the present configuration. Anyone out there using vertical racks? Anyone have any creative solutions to this problem? Also what is the going rate for bike storage? Thanks!

My building charges $5/ month for each assigned bike space, with a waiting list of parking spaces requested. This has reduced the clutter from when we did not charge, yet is an affordable expense for people who actually ride their bikes. We also have storage lockers, costing $10/month, and some people store bikes in their lockers.

I’d think some seasoned employees at a good bike shop might be able to offer up good ideas on the storage, as well as maybe on storage rates. Also, I think garages have to provide some bike spots now, so maybe stop in and ask when you pass one.
