bicycle front yard locking solutions?

I was wondering if there are any local sources for bike racks, specifically the a kind of metal tube ‘loop’ that can be mounted to the floor. I am looking for alternatives to locking 1-2 bikes to the front gate. Are there any other creative solutions?

putting this here for reference, i always see these little accoutrements as possible missed opportunities. if you are looking for something more interesting and less “commercial” looking, (priced accordingly) you can get something custom or thematic. near the park? dogs, trees, etc. or a piece inspired by your favorite artist… maybe even a BLM or your favorite hobby.

i like the bike lockers if you are going to store outside. primarily the “out of sight out of mind” concept, it takes the speed away from the crime. you could install a fake camera and some kind of loud alarm if someone were to break in. ive seen some nice custom wood ones around, from ipe, teak to composite. here is a blog that goes into a detailed analysis:

They make some fairly compact indoor bike storage racks. I’d be worried about vandalism, or part theft outdoors.

Angle grinders definitely do easily cut right through the normal U locks. There are a few companies who have released new U locks that destroy angle grinder blades. They aren’t impenetrable but they make it a lot harder.

In the 1980s they came out with those u shaped bike locks. Bolt cutters would not cut them. I never tried it, but i figured (i cycled a lot then in college and had half way decent bikes) an angle grinder would go right through one of those locks. Now we have all of these battery powered tools, including angle grinders. They are using battery powered sawzalls to cut catalytic converters out and no one seems to hear them.

The other thing you have to worry about is that if you buy better bikes with better components (in the 1980’s we’d be talking shimano 600 or 105 and anything campinogla), people will steel the components. Someone mentioned rims. I bet in this city rims are a hot item.

I mounted one of these to the side of our stoop and it works quite well. Depending on where you live you’d probably need to get Pitlocks or similar to keep your wheels from getting stolen. Obviously these don’t fit everywhere but they are a nice solution.
