best places to find plumbing fixtures?

we are about to start a reno on our brooklyn building and will need two new tubs, two new bathroom sinks, a couple of kitchen sinks, faucets for all, and so on… I combed this archive but didn’t find a lot on best sources… we know about park slope plumbing supply. Is there any other advice on where to source fixtures and faucets? I once bought a sink at home depot for my old apartment, but feel like people often look sideways at box store stuff on this forum. is that because it’s not well made? also: can we try salvage stuff (or is that a mistake)? we have an old house so I’m happy with old/classic looking stuff although also happy to save some money on water bills with efficient shower heads and toilets. thanks for any and all advice

We bought several things at Brooklyn Plumbing Supply on Flatbush at Ave J. Striker, in particular, was very patient and knowledgeable. For smaller fixtures that we wanted to “test drive”, or compare to another, we occasionally bought through Home Depot, because returns are very easy. Also, check out Build.com. The prices can be very good.

In our experience, the Big Box stores do make some nice things, but not ALL. It’s a dicey proposition to hear it told, but I would imagine a decision like that is best made by budget and aesthetic. We recently did some shopping with Ferguson Showrooms (www.fergusonshowrooms.com), and got some decent prices on some really beautiful things. We were working with an architect and he dealt with them, though we went to the showroom (just south of DUMBO) to experience stuff first hand before picking. That’s all to say, I don’t know if they would have sold to us, or they deal with those in the “trade”.
