Best options for reclaimed wood floors?
We just ripped up some carpet and found some floors in bad condition. Looks like we’ll need to replace them. I’d love to use reclaimed wood. Can anyone recommend some good places to look? Ideally somewhere in or near Brooklyn where we could look at samples. Thank you!

Thank you all! Sawkill agreed my floors were indeed unsalvageable (they had also already been replaced in parts w/ plywood). I have ordered some great reclaimed wood from them and am awaiting installation. Fingers crossed… Thank you for the rec!!

Agree with Cate. Try sanding a small inconspicuous area. Wipe a damp cloth on the clean wood to get an idea what it would look like with varnish. But if the floors truly are unsalvageable, my recommendation for reclaimed wood is Pioneer Millworks in upstate NY. Not local but you can order small samples. They are great people and so good to deal with. Wide range of products too: oak, heart pine, yellow pine, walnut, maple etc.

Are you sure? Unrefinished wood can look terrible but polish up beautifully. Painted floors can be painted a new color and look pretty with a rug.

m.fine lumber may be worth a visit. It really depends what you’re looking for, reclaimed wood is a pretty broad category.
