Best flooring for a finished basement?

What flooring is best for a finished basement that occasionally gets some water?
I know tile is great but expensive.
What other options are there? Does vinyl hold up or can water get under and allow mold to grow?
Would love to hear some advice from people who have finished watery basements- thank you!

In my experience with my basement, we had to waterproof the floor because of the moisture level in the subfloor. You have to do that if your basement gets some water. Flooring contractors tend to overlook this aspect when they quote you the price for the material they install, so you have to press them on that. I find that the best flooring for a a basement is vinyl, but it doesn’t have to be tiles; it can also be planks like LVP. The best flooring contractors can be found on angi.com, but beware of the ones who don’t protect your vinyl planks with enough anti-moisture sealant. Someone did that to my basement a few years back and the vinyl floor started to cup after six months. I reported him on badcontractor.com, after he wouldn’t honor his one-year warranty.

we are finishing our basement and using tile. Figure they would hold up if there’s a flood since they’re used in swimming pools. Vinyl won’t hold up in a flood as well.

Choosing a flooring to install in your basement can be difficult with so many options being available. But I think the best type of flooring for basements is vinyl because they made of PVC making it durable and waterproof.

Look for dmx 1-step underlayment e.g. on EBay for around $1 per sqf
It’s a semi-rigid moisture barrier that creates an air space for water to evaporate or even run off underneath the finished floor.

Tile and epoxy are common choices. You will do well with tile and you can insulate it underneath.

Yeah I figured properly installed tile would leave no space for water to get under, right?
I wasn’t looking to do epoxy or garage flooring because I want it to feel a little more like a finished living space.

Very difficult to dry when there is no air between the layers. You don’t want a gap between your floor and the slab or you want a floor that is permeable so any water can escape. Depending on the tile, it won’t allow water to get underneath it or if it’s porous, water will evaporate. What about epoxy or garage flooring that’s tightly adhered.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but if water is allowed to get under the flooring, whether it’s vinyl or tile, and isn’t promptly dried mold will eventually grow. This means that two things have to happen. One, keep the water out, and two, dry everything quickly if water does get in. It’s the drying part I’m wondering about. We’ve always relied on drains and dehumidifiers but I’m assuming that waterproof flooring, whether vinyl or tile, will trap water better making it harder to dry. Maybe radiant heat is the answer and/or some kind of permeability between the moisture barrier and the actual flooring. Does anyone with more practical experience than I have any thoughts?
