Bathroom Skylight
We are thinking of adding a skylight to our parlor floor bathroom. This would mean creating a shaft from the roof line through our top floor apartment and down to the ceiling of the parlor floor. Has anyone done this before and has pictures and experiences to share?
Our main concern is estimating the amount of light we will gain to the parlor floor bathroom.

Hello, did you ever use solar tubes? We are considering them also.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. We are looking into solar tubes!

Iām not sure how your home is laid out, but adding transoms on either side of the bathroom could allow some of the existing light from the parlor level to enter into the bathroom. While not a stream of uninterrupted daylight, it is something and would likely be much cheaper than either a Solatube, and definitely less than fiber optics.

Definitely not. You don’t shower in there, just a “necessary” Bringing light from the roof is big work. Get a big mirror, and good light. I have one recessed in ceiling, and sconce over sink.

I’ve seen a SolaTube in person, and it’s pretty cool.

Following. We have an old fashioned chicken wire via a shaft to the 1st floor.
It’s open for air circulation, but this creates leaks on snow blizzards. I’m planning to remove it once a renovation is done, but will need to add a bathroom fan. I curious on Solar Tubes and if it’s a good replacement solution for the same spot.

Why not try a fiber optic daylight š
