I appreciate there are variables, but simply, if anyone has dug out a basement in the past few years, what was the cost?

About 12 years ago I had the cellar concreted (16×45). They dug out about 4-6″ to put in the undelrlay, then 4″ of concrete. I think it was $9000. A small area (10×10) in the center was also dug out 6″ to give headroom around the laundry/storage area.

I just asked my neighbors for reccs. which is what I do for many jobs, and have always gotten good & reasonable work.

We had our cellar dug down two feet about a year ago as part of a whole house renovation. We did not dig down in the area between the arches and the adjoining wall, where the staircase runs, so the area we dug out would be about 14×40 in the main area of the cellar. We did underpinning under the arches beside the dug out area and benching on the exterior walls and on the adjoining wall. The cost for the digging, the new concrete and French drain installation was about $12,000. That would not include any other finishing of walls, wiring, etc. I also don’t believe that includes disposing of the material since that would have been part of the overall job.
