Baseboard skirting affixed to plaster over brick?
I’m looking to remove a strip of baseboard skirting along a plaster-over-masonry wall, but to do so in a way that the skirting can be reinstated once I’ve solved the problem at hand. Only problem, I’m not certain how the skirting was affixed in the first place and don’t want to go hacking away. Is there a general way that skirting boards were affixed to solid walls that I should bear in mind before I grab the pry bar?

I have seen square cut nails into plaster and i suppose into brick mortar joints. We pay less attention to this now as when we reinstall we use adhesive.
If you take a pry bar to it, you will take some plaster with it.
If you have a base cap on top of a two piece base and can remove it, it is possible to get a long metal cutting blade in between the wood base and cut the nails. Maybe a long blade on a sawzall or if bending that blade over the wood is too much, wrap it with electric tape and do it by hand. Use demo blades if you can use the sawzall.

and, apologies, the plaster is applied directly to the masonry.
