back yard fence / property line question

I need to replace the fence in our back garden, and want to be sure it is just within our side of the property line (because of past conflict with neighbors on one side). I’ve read on this forum that you should get a survey of the property lines to be sure. Anyone know how to do that? Is it expensive? Also, how tall can the fence be, legally?

I recently used perfect point for both a survey and installing stakes at the property line of me rear garden. Cost for both was $950.

fence can be 6′ tall. We use either Boro Land Survey or Perfect Pointe. Both should be less than $1,000 for what you need.
