Baby gates for interior stairs

We live in a typical brownstone with old stairs and need to baby proof ASAP – my 10 month old has already figured out how to climb the stairs. Doesn’t seem like anything on the market will work…am I wrong? Can’t figure out how anything will be sturdy and safe. Has anyone worked with carpenter to do custom gates?

We used the Dreambaby Chelsea Extra Tall Auto Close Security Gate . It worked on all but one of our flights of stairs. FWIW, the gates are more important at the top of a flight of stairs than they are at the bottom.

We had no trouble finding baby gates for our stairs when my son was small > 30 years ago. A quick search on Amazon just showed many models available now.
