Automatic Sprinkler System in a B1-2 family building w CoO R-3, Test monthly?

Hello everybody!
Some very good neighbor had called 311 in February reporting that we had an illegal hotel operation in our house through airbnb. We have a 2 family and we live upstairs, so we didn’t worry much. We got 5 inspectors come our home last Wednesday and I let them in. (everybody is telling me why, but it doesn’t matter now) Long story short we got 4 violations, one from the Fire Department stating that we have to test our sprinkler system once a month. We need to clear the violation now, and my husband may take the test to get the certificate of fitness. What we don’t understand is why we are required to do so if we are only a 2 family w CoO R3? I think we should fight that back. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Most two family houses do not have a sprinkler system – it’s not required. Are you sure your CO is currently for a two family and the house was not a three family or SRO at some point and never legally changed back to two-family?
