Audio Visual System Design

Hi Everybody, can someone recommend a reasonably priced person to design a home audio system (in wall/ceiling speakers)? We enjoy listening to music and will have a projector and screen set up for family movie nights in our rec room, but we also don’t need a crazy audiophile system. We’re in the middle of a big renovation and looking for someone to design the optimal placement of the speakers, projector and screen and designate the wiring for my GC to install. I had seen a previous post from 2013, but am not sure if it’s outdated. Would appreciate any suggestions on leads. Thank you! Mike

I used Michael Politis of Automated Living Solutions (718-428-6600) for my alarm system and whole-house internet/wifi. I was very happy with his services. He also installs AV systems. There are a number of wireless options now available which have the advantage of being easily upgradeable. I have heard excellent things about the Sonos system (http://www.sonos.com/en-us/system) which has a variety of options depending on room type/size. I haven’t used this system myself, however.

There are plenty of online (i.e. free) resources for proper speaker, screen and projector placement. AVS forum, CNET, etc. I got an estimate during my gut renovation 15 years ago and it was way more than I wanted to spend, on top of the equipment charges. Unless you are going super high-end, you can probably do it yourself for much less.

And fwiw, I wouldnt recommend you install your speakers in the walls or ceilings. If you ever want to change/upgrade/repair, its not an easy thing. And they generally sound better if free-standing or wall mounted.
