Attic Insulation - Advice and Cost
I’ve got an attic in my townhouse, maybe 2 or 3 feet high, with no insulation. The last person up there crashed a knee through the drywall ceiling. So I’m guessing I should get insulation blown in. I’m thinking cellulose would be the easiest and cheapest, but I’m not sure.
Any suggestions? About how much would this run me?

I used Federal Conservation to insulate our 1,000 sq.ft roof. They did a great job, I dealt with Joey. We also did it during winter. We felt the difference right away. It took about 4 hours.

Take a look at the thread, on this forum, from the Pratt Center titled “Receive $5000+ of home improvements by participating in energy efficiency study”.

Yes, I dealt with Bill. Great guy. No, no mess left and they were great about scheduling. Obviously, since they go through the roof, weather can be an issue. BTW, mine was done in January, during the heating season, and I felt a difference immediately on the top floor.

Just called them based on your rec. Thanks. Bill was friendly and forthcoming with information. He says it’s $3 a square foot (x 800 = $2400), which includes insulation, sealing the roof access, and adding ventilation in the roof. The whole job will take a day or two, depending on what he sees when he gets here, and he guarantees there will be no mess inside the house. So now we have a starting point if it’s useful for any other advice.

I think about $2500. You should also get roof vents installed. Federal Conservation did mine. Great to work with.
