Anyone been successful at requesting Fios

We would like fios at our house in South Slope. Has anyone been successful requesting it or getting several neighbors to request it so they make it available? (if so, any south slope neighbors want it too? https://www.verizon.com/foryourhome/ordering/ordernew/buildfios.aspx)

Yes. I emailed one of the regional managers for Verizon (publicly available) and he was surprisingly responsive. All told, took about one year to get the box up on my block. I’m still using Optimum because it’s cheap and haven’t had any service issues.

Yes! I put in multiple requests over a two year period and now again about 10 days ago. At the end of last week, I received an email saying Fios was now ready. And today they followed up with a call asking if I was still interested. The call was a bit unexpected.

I rescind my recommendation of FIOS. My service has now turned unreliable. I spent over an hour on the phone with them Friday night. They promised a return call on Saturday morning. No call, no improvement. Seems like Time Warner again (and that is the most scathing thing I can say about any company).

Fios is not all that it is cracked up to be. But because it is Verizon the lines do get fixed slightly quicker after a storm etc than Optimum.

I am sorry to hear that Adam has that issue. My experience with Fios has been vastly better than Time Warner. Speed is far superior and reliability has been almost perfect.

We got it and the internet speed is worse than Optimum. Many people on my block are switching back.

I did this. I tracked down the name of the engineer who was responsible. It can work. You can also go through the City’s DOITT. @Bob Marvin is correct in his analysis. We already had telephone poles running down the center of the blocks (along the back sides of each yard). One new rental building on the block gave Verizon the access from the street. Then they supposedly had to order some sort of custom trunk line to run through the block.

Some owner on the block has to allow conduit to be run through or under a house so the distribution box can be set up in the garden core.

We got FiOS on my block of PLG through the effort of neighbors on Maple Street, one block north. It was complicated because most Lefferts Manor blocks lack telephone poles, thus permission to erect new poleshad to be obtained from neighbors who owned every 7th or 8th house, You shouldn’t have such a problem in the South Slope where (IIRC from having lived on 13th and 14th Street) poles already exist.

Both sides of Maple II organized to work with Verizon, along with the south side of Lincoln Road and the north side of Midwood Street, which share the back yards. It took over two years. Now my neighbors on the south side of Midwood are working on FiOS. Their situation is even more complicated because the block backing them got FiOS by running cable on the backs of houses, something that only serves their block. Cable on house backs requires near universal agreement. I’m told that Verizon can skip ONE hold-out by running cable from either end of the block, but more than one prevents the installation.
