Any way to add a volume control or off button to an apartment intercom?
The intercom buzzer is super loud and keeps waking our baby. The intercom panel is older and looks like photo and just has 3 buttons: a button to talk, one to listen and one to buzz someone in.
We’d love to be able to turn the buzzer off at times or at least the volume down while she’s napping.
Anyone have any idea if tbis can be done? Thanks! [IMG_8244](//muut.com/u/brownstoner/s3/:brownstoner:YvGR:img_8244.jpg.jpg)

Don’t know if you want to spend the money, but I have a great video intercom system. The volume is not that bad and you can adjust it to your liking. I used Alpha Video. www.alphavideoalarm.com

Or an electrician can replace this model with a newer one, which may have a volume button.

If you have clear access to the speaker, a layer or two of duct tape will muzzle it. Also, you don’t need to know to solder, you can use wirenuts (those plastic screw-on thingies.,) and if you get a small radio-shack switch just leave it hanging outside.

of course it can be done…but you need a basic knowledge of electronics and soldering… just cut one of the speaker leads and insert an on/off toggle or rocker switch which you would have to drill and mount on the unit
