Can some on this board work together and make an issue out of this for the attorney general’s office. And also bring to the attention of our city council? It does not seem right that the dep is in bed with what appears at best to be a dishonest company and at worst may involve fraud or criminality.

My aunt had a very similar experience a little while back and have had several neighbors with the same experience as of recent. She was simply denied a claim from Liberty sewer and the guy in this article was actually they guy who called several times to defend the denial (hmmmmmm). They literally could not give any good reason for the claim not being covered other than it falls outside of the terms and conditions of the contract. I too am among the former AWR “customers” who were denied and cancelled at first sight of trouble. 20 grand later I finally have a new sewer line (Figliolia did excellent work). Incredibly frustrating.

Water quality is pretty unfortunate, in my opinion, mostly because of the level of harmful chemicals that are allowed to be in there. Hopefully they’re doing their best, but I wish it were better.

I paid into the insurance for quite some time. After years of paying into the program I was getting some sewage backup. I filed a claim, had then come inspect the line and I was told that the sewer line had a belly, and therefore the claim was denied due to it being a “pre-existing” condition. Make a very long story short, I got the local politicians involved. And I ended up getting back the $ I contributed into the program. This was a scam. This article makes me want to revisit my issue.

My experience from everyone I speak with is that they pay the monthly premium for years and when they finally have a problem the claim is denied. There seem to be several reasons for denial that can technically be used on any water line or sewer pipe in NYC. EXAMPLE- they told me that my pipe is back pitched. My plumber told me that most pipes have a small area of back pitch and if you seek, you will find it. Now it makes sense why they are pushing denials, there is A LOT more info going on here behind the scenes
