Alternative to Built Roof Deck

I have a nice accessible roof and would like to put some patio furniture — chairs, table, etc. What are some alternatives to building a roof deck? Cannot hire an architect and contractor right now, but totally appreciate their craft. What are the cons of putting an outdoor water-resistant rug or fake turf?

IIRC the owner of the South Slope brownstone where we had our last apartment, long ago, had nodular wooden decking on part of his roof.

there are other products made to go on roofs, other than what colonial as talking about. we had blocks of some sort on a roof on a building i once worked in – I cannot talk about them because they had been installed before my time.

Polypropylene turf and other “outside plastics” have been found to cause cancer especially when regularly exposed to heat and sunlight.
