Air conditioner condenser in front area?

We are installing central air and figuring out how to handle the condenser unit. We don’t want to deal with putting it on the roof, and I hate the idea of taking up space in the backyard. We a *huge front garden area and live on a relatively busy street, so I don’t feel like it would be too obtrusive if we put greenery and fencing around it. Has anyone ever done that? Allowed? Would our neighbors hate us? I honestly haven’t had central air in so long, I can’t recall how loud or obtrusive they are. Thank you!

The problem w/ a pit is that the unit needs major circulation of air: that’s why they’re put on roofs or in gardens.

If the front was the only option for placement, i’d dig a pit for it, grate on top, drain on the bottom. Then it’s practically invisible.

I have seen lots of people try to hide them in the front yard. None of those attempts have been successful. Please don’t put it in the front.

If you’re in a landmark area you can’t do it. I’d also be worried about vandalism. The new units aren’t all that big & are quiet quiet so I’d sacrifice a bit of the back yard if I were you.
