Affordable Hardware for exterior double doors
I am looking to replace my single door to more original brownstone double doors. I need to source affordable hardware for the double doors. Any suggestions are extremely appreciated!

@pepinohill Send me your email and I’ll let you know who I am working with and what they quoted me. Tho my project is more than just a door project. I am having them not only open my front to a double set of doors, but also adding back in a vestibule and double doors in the vestibule.

Yes, I meant Baldwin, but wrote Schlage.

as a maker and restorer of strictly period doors, i would steer clear of schlage, my apologies to my customer EJR for crossing his opinion. Schlage is more of a suburban, middle of the road product and i am not even sure they make mortise units. Emtek (and we install a lot of Emtek) is a good product in line with Baldwin. As an installer, i like Emtek over Baldwin. Now, both of these are premium products for discerning customers who really want a certain look. if the look is less important, you are not trying to actually replicate a certain style, a Marks 91a lockset is perfectly fine. we include a Marks lockset with every door restoration and every new door we produce (and we state that on our website). we include these locksets free as we feel that any door job is a pricey undertaking for anyone but we also get people who are not on the upper salary scale who really want new or restored doors and get put off by the prices of the hardware, so i make it simple; we can get the job done, and yes, it is pricey, but we can give you a decent lockset that wil l work for many years (the marks is a good product) without the customer having to worry about a $400 Emtek. We are retailers of the Marks and of Medeco Deadbolts though less so for walk in customers and more so for our door customers. the Marks retails for about $75.00 at our favorite big box store.

I am in the middle of finding a carpenter to build new exterior doors. I randomly came across a carpenter installing new exterior doors for my neighbor, and they looked great (Plinio Santos 347-701-0635). Not sure if I’ll use him yet since he’s my first quote, but he told me to go here to look for hardware: Blueman Hardware Corp. 153 Bowery, NY 10002. Architectural Hardware & Luxury Plumbing Fixtures. Henry Sierra, Manager. 212-343-8322.
Would you mind sharing name of your contractor and cost? I was quoted slightly under $9K (double doors, mahogany, double-paned glass, marble saddle, but excluding doorknob hardware). Not sure yet if that is competitive.

Emtek and Schlage are good brands with tons of options, in a variety of styles. I just bought the Emtek regency series, which was not cheap, but not a fortune. They do have cheaper options. There are tons of online vendors, many of whom offer discounts. http://www.houseofantiquehardware.com/ has lots of good options too. If those options are too expensive, I’m sure you can find something decent at Home Depot, Lowes or even your local hardware store.
