Adjacent alteration built an 8ft fence around the yard

Hi all. Neighbor next door is wrapping up renovation. Looks like for the rear yard they’ve gone with an 8ft fence around the perimeter. As far as I know, the max is 6ft in zone R6B without a variance. Curious if that’s not the case.

Will that likely be addressed during inspection before tenants move in? Or does this kind of thing not get enforced

New York City Code limits the heights of property fences to 6 feet. • Residential districts: 6 feet, BC §3112.1 I shared this with a neighbor when he was renovating as I wanted to preserve the light and air back yard. He abided by that limit, which I appreciated. Given this is a fire department driven safety measure, I would think it very unlikely someone would get a variance. Seems like a friendly reminded might be in order with your neighbor.

It’s not as uncommon as one might think and they may have gotten approval for a variance. Is the height impacting you in any way?
