Adding a floor on roof

Its a landmark area but i know its been approved on the block if it was set back from the front of building. Im not clear on this new FDNY requirement something about they want to be able to walk fron to back, however it seems the new levels roof becomes The roof and if the can walk front to back of that? or are they claiming with a set back their ladder wont get them to that level? anyone know, i want to do a full width PH set back from the front but going all the way to the back of the house.
BTW anyone used SIPS for one of these additions ? m thinking i could have have the entire PH pre fabbed in cement board exterior side and have it boomed up and assembled in a few days

We’re still talking a rowhouse in Brooklyn, right? If so, I can guarantee you that the side walls need to be non-combustible. No exception. The roof itself may or may not depending upon a number of things, but most likely not. If the SIP manufacturer says they are zero combustible, it may be that the DOB will accept that outright, or you could have to prove it to them by submitting the manufacturer’s data sheets.

The code is ICC and what they have added to the icc in some areas, I dont think your non combustible always applies but i think in my case three family 4 floors it would, I also think it only applies to the roof of the addition not the walls. but Im only a handy guy not a archetect and havnt actually researched this yet, I have been a heavy construction forman for 35 years in nyc and been a contrator outside nyc so i have some familiarity with parts of the various codes.
These are not simply fire rated, their fire rating is they are zero combustible, a metal stud with two 5/8 inside and the 1-1 /4 shaft wall outside and 6″ mineral wool between that you suggest and i see all over is only a two hour rating.

Going back to the original subject matter, the question is not whether or not the SIPs have fire rating, or whether they are ICC approved. NYC building code supersedes ICC, and it requires that exterior bearing walls within Fire Districts (all of Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Bronx, and much of Staten Island and Queens) be non-combustible. Non-combustible is not the same as fire rated. Wood framing can be fire rated, but is till combustible. It’s been a while since I looked into SIPs, so I was unaware that they make them with cement board.

What makes you so confident you “can work out your own values”? When you dismiss my non-judgemental feedback as a “morality tip” in a sarcastic punchline, it seems you might need a little help understanding why you use your own discontent as reason to make absurd generalizations. Thanks for the morality tip but i can work out my own values thanks. I worked in the sleight on purpose, you see I have a problem with them coming here illegally and doing inferior work for wages I can’t compete with if if I don’t want to live like a peon. But I really really hate my co nationals that hire them and defend the problem.

Thanks for the morality tip but i can work out my own values thanks. I worked in the sleight on purpose, you see I have a problem with them coming here illegally and doing inferior work for wages I can’t compete with if if I don’t want to live like a peon. But I really really hate my co nationals that hire them and defend the problem.
