a note on roof repairs (patches with cloth and karnack 19)

last fall we were on here talking about roof patches with fiberglass tape and someone came on here and stated “the roofers tell you the patches will not last”. with that, i climbed onto my roof, that afternoon, (thank you whoever said that) and sure enough, i could see the karnack wearing off the fiberglass tape patches i had done several years previous.

after thinking about this, it made sense because we are told to paint these roofs with the silver paint anyway. my point is, if we use these patches, we have to paint them just like we paint the roof. so as i painted my roof this year, i kept a quart of the silver asphalt paint in case i have to make a roof patch i will be able to paint the patch after is has hardened (they say like 30 or 60 days).

my hope is, if we treat the patches like we treat the roof, they will last just as long.
