A. Malek vs other facade specialists?
First time poster here. I have read many positive reviews about A. Malek on this site, and have seen some of his work which looks quite nice. I’m currently in the midst of a gut renovation of a Carroll Gardens brownstone, and got a quote from A. Malek for a facade replacement that was well below other bidders. My issue is that his insurance excludes coverage for worker injuries, and I’m not comfortable exposing myself to that sort of liability. Has anyone else had similar issues with other brownstone facade specialists? Is this a common practice?

StuyHeights: Millad has insurance now and @Daveinbedstuy is correct that Millad did not have it in the beginning but now he is fully insured and licensed. He is a Landmark specialist as well. His contact info is 718-669-8305 or 347-425-5537 or
visit his website: www.ctgconstracting.com.

Malek has workman’s Comp & Disability Insurance. Are you looking at just his general liability insurance.?
Talk to him, I am sure he can give you the answer.

I have an umbrella policy as well, but, according to my insurance agent, umbrella policy only covers you over the limits of an existing underlying policy. Therefore, if there is no coverage for worker injury in place, an umbrella policy wouldn’t all of a sudden give you coverage for that. I guess if most of these guys are uninsured, I’ll have to bite the bullet.

I used Millad in Bed Stuy years ago. He too was far more reasonable and I’d seen work he did. I’m sure he wasn’t insured either. But I have an umbrella policy. I don’t have his contact number but I’ve also seen Malek’s work and he’s always done good work and I don’t think anyone has ever had a problem with him. A lot of these guys aren’t insured. It’s a risk but they do know what they are doing.
