There are still 1-man roofer operations around Brooklyn who do the roof surfacing installation and parapet wall coping restoration themselves in lieu of leaving a crew on your roof, susequently have a lower overhead, are bonded, and give 10 yr guarentees…

I used Greene Roofing last year (I got estimates from them and Premier and one other), and they were fantastic. They’re based in Brooklyn and have been around since 1935.

FWIW, I’ve had Fred come take a look at my roof on 3 occasions since August of 2014. We did a limited job with them after the first consultation. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience.

Fred & Anthony of Premier have a wonderful roofing co. but they have grown so, they can be over-booked by 6 mo.s. Susan of Sketch & Hammer is known for arranging two other Brooklyn roofing companies simultaneously in conjunction with her deck contracting business.

FWIW, my experience with Premier from last week/this week, on recommedation of this forum:
4/3 – called, left message with info
4/4 – called, spoke to someone, was told they would give me a call by the end of the week to schedule visit
4/10 – called, spoke to someone, said they would call me back later that day
4/11 – called, spoke to someone, said they would call me back later that day

Haven’t heard from them, even once, unfortunately just too unprofessional to deal with at this point.

Just took a quote from Fabulous Roofing, who immediately scheduled a site visit and was responsive. Haven’t done the work yet (or agreed to the quote) so can’t comment there.
