Is it possible to switch contractors with open permits?
We have been working with a new contractor, who we found on this site, and are not happy so we want to cut ties but we have open permits for work that has not yet been started. How do we handle? When we can the current guy, does he close the permits and the new contractor pull new ones, do they transfer over? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks all. Appreciate the feedback. Allyslope – particularly good suggestions to follow.

Not really starting from scratch. Current contractor does not need to close permits or do anything. Your new contractor, if he knows what he is doing, should be able to handle it. It’s a simple process. We have alot of experience taking over jobs for contractors that didn’t make the grade. http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/curated

If they have access to your place I would change the locks and move all valuables off site before I do anything. -Have the new contract pull the permits now. They will need a letter from you to authorize it. -Send the current a termination letter via certified mail

Meaning we have to start over from scratch, right? Do we have the soon-to-be-fired contractor close the ones he pulled for us?

Your new contractor can pull new permits which will supersede the old permits. http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/curated
