Having trouble finding a general contractor

Hi all, I’ve been reading Brownstoner for a while, but finally signed up. I’ve been trying to find a general contractor for a smallish job in my condo in Brooklyn (small kitchen demo to lower the breakfast counter, adding ceiling lights, wall sconce, removing sinks in both bathrooms and re-tiling the bathroom floor). I’ve been in contact with a bunch of contractors (some I’ve found on Brownstoner forums), and have had several visit, seem interested, then stop returning my calls. I’m guessing the market has gotten really busy. Has anyone been able to get a contractor for something other than a gut-reno, or new build? If so, anyone you can recommend for this type of job?
