I know this has been asked before, but looking for some up-to-date recommendations, and perhaps some happy customers who havewnt taken it upon themselves to write a recommendation yet. Our drawings are set (used an architect) ready to be filed, and we’re putting together a list of GC’s to bids out the work. We’re putting a new kitchen in our rear parlor of our brownstone, and adding a deck out to the backyard.  Anyone recently complete a similar project in their home? Happy with the results? Thanks!

Hey s-a, We did a whole house reno (well, mostly the whole house – but it wasn’t a gut) which included a back parlor kitchen and a deck add-on over in Bed-Stuy. You couldn’t go wrong including my contractor. He was not only good, but fair across the board. Final inspection is tomorrow!!!! Yahoo!!!! sweet-action,   For what it’s worth, I am a neighbor of SWR.  I stopped by many times during his renovation process and was always impressed with the progress.   His place looks great now.   I had done a brownstone renovation the year before that included the same setup — rear kitchen on parlor floor and deck added on to adjoin the kitchen.  I am pleased with our deck because we did it ourselves, but not very happy with our renovation, especially compared to the work done by SWR’s contractor.

I’m also interested in contractor recommendations – sweetaction’s post could have been my own (although I’m not in the same neighborhood).  My problem is that I have someone who can do the kitchen but not the same someone who can do the deck/exterior part so I’m toying with contracting out interior and exterior separately, but that’s more work for me, so a general contractor would be great.  I have some good prospects if anyone wants me to post about the people I’ve vetted so far, they seem like great options; but I really want to work with the person who is already in our house doing other work, he’s a small contractor who does the work himself with a friend and I like the individual attention, we don’t have to worry about him going off to do other work …maybe that’s misguided but there are tradeoffs to the alternative as well.

I used Relva from a company called CRJ Home Improvement.They put a Kitchen and Bathroom for me. It came out great. They were super helpful and did a bunch of extra things for me before leaving. Their number is 347-715-5956.
