tree pruning/removal recommendations

we have a 70 foot (ish) weed tree in the backyard, and are looking for a tree service to either prune it back or remove it entirely. the tree may be diseased, but we are not sure.  we used Bartlett Tree Services several years ago, and they were great, but are now looking for some other options as well. any suggestions would be great.

The company i used is actually not a tree prunning company. They are brownstone masons and were working on my block. I hired them to remove a HUGE tree stump from my backyard and then to repave it over with concrete. It was a really tough stump to remove (really wide and deep into the ground) but they got it removed. I am not sure if they will do an entire tree but give them a call. I have used a couple different folks over the years, and the only one of the bunch that I would recommend is Arborpolitan.  His prices were comparable to the rest, but unlike the others, he was prompt, nice to work with, and actually seemed truly knowledgable about trees.  The other guys kind of seemed like just laborers rather than arborists–hacking a tree when you want them to or suggesting you get your trees hacked when they don’t know what else to do…

I have worked with Justin at Arborpolitan, and highly recommend him.  They’re knowledgeable about trees, have the right people and equipment to remove large trees, and are very careful with removal (which is important, since most brownstones don’t have driveways or exits except through the house itself.)

I was happy with Urban Arborists.  A rep came out to inspect our tree and then sent a quote for pruning vs. removal (the tree wasn’t diseased but we kind of hate this particular tree and want to replace it) and for pruning a lot of other shrubs and removing some pest plants.  The workers who came were on time, quick, and I think did a good job.
