Ceiling fan with lights showroom or good website suggestion? Or personal rec?

We need a bunch of ceiling fans, but we are kind of particular about what we want- the stuff at HD and Lowes isn’t interesting to us. We’re willing to spend a decent amount for the right ones. We also want a fan that has a light that is strong enough to provide a good amount of light for the room since it will replace all the overhead lights. We kind of like a basic white modern style with globe light. Anybody have one they love or know of a local showroom where we can see a bunch of options? Thanks!

There is a fair selection at Lighting by Gregory, although they are fairly clumped on top of one another. We have bought about 10 ceiling fans in the past few years after two renovations. Fanimation, Modern Fan and Minka are good choices. We have the Haiku — not installed yet — but it is quite elegant.

We have Minka’s as well and are very happy with them. We went to Lighting by Gregory to see some in person, then looked at the Minka website to decide which ones we wanted.

Lee’s Art Shop on 57th st has a lighting shop that used to be a block or so west but now I believe is located within the same building as the Art shop. they have always had stuff that ran counter and more attractive than what could be found at the big stores. Steve

I’ve bought ceiling fans from Lamp warehouse, 1073 39th St, in Borough Park, and been pleased with their selection and installation advise [I always do my own installation, but the printed instructions don;t work for the old “gas boxes” in most of my rooms]. However, I haven’t been there for a few years and understand that they’ve downsized considerably. Still worth a look IMO.

Minka Fan designs are, imo, the sleekest. I have 2, going on 14 years work flawlessly (one’s on in winter about 12 hrs/every day). Worth the extra cost over HD/Lowes…they will buzz & creak after a few years. Lighting is problematic as most nice-looking fans tend to have single lamps and diffusers which cut down light severely (my fans have a 75w halogen bulbs which look dull) else you have the ‘traditional’ fans with the ugly multiple lights which do throw a lot of light. For pricey fan, check out BigAss Haiku, probably the best-looking fan ever, it has led spotlights.
