scratching in the wall in evening and night on top floor - I'm thinking a squirrel, how do I get him out ?

There is an industrious scratching in the wall on the top floor of my house, mostly in the evening and at night.  It is not very responsive, doesn’t  necessarily stop,  even when I pound on the wall. I was hoping to scare him out. It is a brick carriage house. I don’t see any ways of entry, but it is near the roof hatch which  leaks a bit when raining and I will check out.  How do I get him/her out ?

Put it where the point of entry is, the roof hatch. Stock it with something the varment would be looking for.

Just get a trap and move him down the street.  No need to kill the poor bugger.  I have two traps I use to take in the neighbor stray cats.  They are not too expensive.

Check that roof hatch immediately. It probably got in that way and then couldn’t find the way out. You can fix your leak while saving the squirrel!
