Looking for exterior 'leak finder' recos

Need to isolate a leak in our 100 year old brickstone in Gowanus. The old bay window style window on the first floor of the front of our house leaked pretty bad when raining, so we bought a new flat Pella picture window and hired a contractor to install the new window and reseal the front of our house by repointing the brick facade, sealing all windows/flashing on the 3nd and 3rd floors and then cleaning and painting the brick with a good long-lasting exterior paint. My contractor did a good job installing the new 1st floor window straight againt the brick with no flashing. And since it’s on the first floor it’s easy to inspect and we don’t think it is leaking but instead one of the windows above it on the 2nd floor. My contractor’s been back here 6 times (at no charge!) and through a process of elemination, we’ve tried everything: checked the roof, sealing the crown tiles on the roof, resealing all of the exterior aluminum flashing on all other windows above it, but nothing ever nails the problem. The ‘new’ Pella window is now startng to rott and we’ve had it–It was a really expensive window–for us, at least. I think we’ll need to tear open some of our interior walls, pull out a hose and go to town on the outside tin find it. I’m sure we’re not the only folks that have had a similar problem. Not sure a plumber is what we need for this one, as it’s rain related. Any experienced ‘leak hunter’ reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there,  My friend said the leak specialist does things like running a hose.  He sounded pretty thorough.  When we had some minor leaks, contractors and roofers all got it wrong and the architect we ended up using for bigger projects was the one to figure it out.  I think leaks are just hard to deal with.

Three engineers and two contractors were wrong about what was causing a leak in our basement. The only person who was able to find the cause of the leak was a very experienced roofer working with a hose. Testing with a hose is the answer.

Be prepared for a specialist to tell you things the contractor recommended were wrong to do!  We actually had some minor leak issues at one point and multiple contractors told us the solution was X and we were about to do X when we brought in a very experienced architect for a big project and he said X would make it worse.  He had very good reasoning and offered another solution that worked great. We were just lucky that X didn’t happen because it would have been very hard to undo. I’ve heard others with similar stories.
