Exterior Waterproofing (digging 8 feet) - Permits required?

I’ve had a handful of general contractors provide me estimates to waterproof my cellar.  They all stated they do not require a permit to dig in the backyard.  The plan is to dig 8 feet deep to expose the foundation wall and properly seal it.  We’ve had estimates range from $6,000 all the way to $13,000\.  One contractor said it will be a week and another said 4 weeks.  Has anyone done something similar?  Please provide me with any information you feel is relevant.
Thank you.

If digging down more than 4 feet permits are generally required. Most contractors try and do this work with no permits but the DOB is cracking down on illegal excavation and will quickly slap you with a 5k stop work order if it brought to their attention. Regarding how long and the price there is no way to say without some more detail…specifically how many linear feet of wall is being waterproofed and what type of access do you have to the yard?

I did my house waterproofing 2 year ago, which is 3 story building it cost me $6500.00\. They put wirematch and two coat of cement. Call them at 718-669-8305 if you need it. And ask for Millad.

I just did this for a home in Windsor Terrace.  I think $6000-$9,000 should be the range.  13 seems high.  We used 1K by Aquafin.  Seemed to do a great job so far- in fact while the foundation was still excavated and the product was drying the hurricane hit and we had a pool in there for a few days and not a drop of water inside.  You just have to be sure it is applied well and at the required thickness. -Josh Goldstein www.jgoldsteinarchitect.com
