Solar Panels in Brooklyn?

Has anyone in Brooklyn gotten solar panels installed on their brownstone’s roof? I know there are incentives for doing it, but not sure how to get started.

Contact an installer, they will get all the permits and DOB approvals. Currently your will get about 50% of the total cost back. There are special financing solutions. Here is a pretty good writeup of the incentives http://www.brooklynsolarworks.com/incentives/ I met with these guys two weeks ago – they seem pretty good and ambitious. The essence is that after the system is installed, you’ll pay a bit less (for financing and remaining ConEd charge) than you pay currently for ConEd alone. After the system is paid off you will pay significantly less. Maximum size is 6 KW on a regular Brownstone roof.

There are tax credits still available. The big hurdle in the City is getting the permits from the DOB.

There’s a program being sponsored right now by a group at Pratt. You send them your address & they evaluate the potential of your building &, if it’s good, walk you through the process. I didn’t qualify so didn’t keep the info but you could try getting in touch through the school.
