Securing Glass-Paned Front Entry Door

Like many others, my house’s front entry door has glass panes that would enable a burglar to easily unlock the door simply by breaking the glass and reaching inside.  What, if anything, do people with glass-paned front entry doors generally do for added security?  Thanks.

Thanks for all the responses thus far.  I don’t like the look of metal in the glass area, but I will look into security glass.  I also intend to put a sliding surface bolt at the bottom of the inside of the door, but obviously that doesn’t help when we’re not home (since it can only be locked/unlocked from the inside).

Check out any place that makes window guards.  They should be able to to fabricate an attractive metal screen which is placed on the interior side of the door that will prevent people from sticking their hand through to the lock.

Many people use double key locks, even though these aren’t legal ln NYC. These are also often used on under-stoop gates, where someone could easily stick their hand through and turn the knob on a single key lock. IF you install a double key lock it’s a good idea to hang a key on a hook, out of sight of potential intruders.
