patio door - in-swinging or out-swinging?
I am working with my architect on my kitchen renovation and we are doing new windows and patio door – she asked whether I wanted in-swinging (which we have now) or out-swinging. for in-swinging I can have a screen door (which I don’t have now) and for out-swinging there will be more clearance in the kitchen (and the powder room located right next to the door). I was curious to what others thought. If it makes a difference, we have 2 small kids, a dog and a cat (who always tries to escape), and security is a concern (we have had one attempted break in last year). We are in a landmarked area so windows and doors likely to be Marvin historic or similar. Thanks!

Definitely inswing. A screen is very nice to have when you want some fresh air but no bugs. Additionally as mentioned it is more secure. Surprised the architect doesn’t feel the same way.

Inswing doors are safer – i.e. harder for burglars to jimmy.

There has been few posts about this topic. People have different opinion. In the northeast, architects prefer in-swing because the snow cannot block the door.
