Looking for a place that can cut steel/metal doors.

Hi All! Happy New Year! I am in the process of putting down a new floor over the old one. I have to cut the exisiting metal front doors so the floor and the saddle can fit. Does any one know a place where I can take the doors and get them cut on site? I have a station wagon and can haul them over, but I don’t want to be without front doors for any period of time. All thoughts would be greatly appreciated! ?? kc

Bring them to Statewide Fireproof Door on 3rd street in Park Slope or Long Island Fireproof door in Queens. They should be able to trim them if you don’t feel comfortabe doing it yourself. They are also a good place to order replacments in case the old doors don’t work out.

most of the time there is a section at the bottom of those doors that is there in case they need to be trimmed. easy to just replace when your spending other peoples money 😉

If you are talking about a labeled fire rated door, that would void the rating. We always just replace the door.

look, you sound quite handy.  a skil saw with a composition blade will do the trick.  you may need two blades or even three to get through each door.   Also, be aware that there is a limit to how much you can cut off before you enter the hollow core of the door.  I have done this myself and have welded the old bottom back inside. I can do this for you, but I am in Middle Village.  I will be home Saturday afternoon.  I can do it on site in Brooklyn, but if you want this ASAP,  I will not be in brooklyn tomorrow.
